I need to collaborate with other people on a paper.
These instructions assume that revisions are important. If they aren't, then see the information about sharing files below.
- The first thing you'll need to do is determine who will need access to the paper and other files (make a list of names). Also determine if there is anyone outside of MUSC that will need access. You can always add/remove people later, but you will need to come up with an initial list.
Send an email to mullerb@musc.edu with the names (preferably NetIDs) of people at MUSC and any names of people outside of MUSC who should have access (usernames/passwords for these people will be emailed back to you). Make sure to include the name/NetID of the primary person responsible for the paper at MUSC (i.e., primary author). Also, include a short, meaningful name (one word) for the paper/project.
A repository will then be set up for your paper / files with the access control you requested. It will be located at http://code.bioinformatics.musc.edu/<netid>/<projectname> (where <netid> is the NetID of the primary author, and <projectname> is the name you gave). See [:Docs/Subversion:] for information on how to access your new repository.
I need to collaborate with other people on a project involving computer code.
Determine initially which of the following levels of access makes the most sense for your project.
Public: Anyone at MUSC or outside of MUSC will be able to check out the code and view it. Anyone with a NetID will be able to commit changes.
Private: Only people with a NetID will be able to view the code or commit new versions.
Personal: Only people you specify (internal or external to MUSC) will be able to view and commit changes.
Once you've done this, determine a single word name (if multiple words are needed use CamelCase) for your project and email mullerb@musc.edu with the access control type you want and the project name. Then see [:Docs/Subversion:] for information on how to access your new repository.
I need to make files / documents available for others.
See [:Docs/WebSpace:].
